The Longing In Me

Week Four - Longing for Happiness
Reminder: Watch this video the week of Jul 7 - Jul 13

We all long to be happy, content and satisfied with our lives and where we are. Sometimes though, what we think will make us happy and bring fulfillment, can lead us away from the One who alone can bring ultimate satisfaction to our hearts and souls. David represents this very real danger with his life, and this week we look at the tragic consequences chasing the wrong options for happiness cost him (and those around him). It is a painful lesson, but hopefully one we can learn from and avoid having to go through personally...

Scripture of the Week

But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.
~ Matthew 6:33 (Amplified Bible)

Discussion / Journaling Question

We sincerely believe this six-week online study will encourage you as you learn to direct your God-endowed longings to the one who longs for you. Let us encourage you, after watching each weeks' video teaching segment (and reading the corollary readings in the book and study guide if you've purchased those); to review the discussion/journaling questions we provide below. If you're doing this study "solo", let these prompt you in your prayer time, as you journal, or simply to ponder during your study time. If you are in a group setting for this study (face-to-face with others, or via social media or online tools); you may wish to discuss these with others in your "group".

Questions to ponder, journal, or discuss with others enjoying this study with you:

  1. Why do you think David didn't heed the warning signs (including the words from his servant reporting back about Bathsheba's identity) and stop short of what he knew was sin?
  2. Do you agree with Sheila's statement that every single one of us is capable of the most heinous of sin given the right circumstances?
  3. We often think that once the sin is committed, that's it; we've blown it and there is no recourse. What should David have done immediately after he sinned with Bathsheba?
  4. Have you ever pursued something whole–heartedly that you finally achieved or realized, only to discover that it brought you heartache instead of the happiness you envisioned?
